Blindfolded Macbeth was an immersive theater project developed at Oberlin College. Comprising four scenes between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in the moments surrounding the murder of Duncan, the production was an immersive “happening” that offered each audience member claustrophobic intimacy with characters at the play’s moment of greatest tension.
Blindfolded Macbeth took place in a working elevator. In each scene, two actors performed inches away from a blindfolded attendee. When a scene ended, the actors would exit the elevator, which then moved up a floor. The production culminated in the post-murder scene between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
